            Welcome back to school after our three-day weekend!  Once again, there is no homework this week, as homework packets will be sent home starting in October.  Your children continue to do well at adjusting to school here at St. John Catholic School and learning rules and routines. 

 

Weekly On-going’s:

Wednesday- All school faith family mass @ 8:30am in the church; 2:30pm Dismissal

What Your Child is Learning/Doing

·   Fine Motor-

* Tracing/writing “Bb”

* Tracing/writing name

* Tracing/writing numbers (1-10)

* Tracing shapes

* Math-

            * Matching: one-to-one correlation

            * Direction following

            * Position/Sorting

            * Introduction to shapes

 

·   Language Arts-

*Speaking Skills- sharing ideas/answers to questions using complete sentences

     * Recognizing/reading/writing the letter “Bb”

     * Learning the sound of the letter “Bb”/Identifying pictures of    words and names of words that begin with the letter “Bb”

 

·   Art-

*Students created apples using “tear art” technique

                *Students created/colored cards for parents

 

*Religion/Social Studies/Social Learning-

            * Students learn about the seven days of Creation

            * Introduction to the Bible; Genesis- first Bible story

            * Students practice prayer/ praying reverently/making the Sign of the

            Cross

            * Students attend Mass together as a class for the first time

* Students learn/discuss why rules are important at school and in the world

* Students continue to practice using manners/cooperative learning/teamwork

*Science-

 

* Students learn about and distinguish between living and non-living things

* Students learn and discuss what resources living things need to survive such as, air, water, sunlight, and air

 

 

Please help your child practice and reinforce these lessons and skills at home for optimal success in these areas!
