Welcome to St. John Catholic School

Dear Families,

Welcome! Thank you for choosing St. John Catholic School! We are excited to share our special community with you. For over fifty years, our school has offered a quality, faith-filled academic foundation for children. We challenge and prepare our students for lifelong learning, and emphasize the development of the whole child. We are a family here, and our children thrive.

Please peruse our website and please feel free to ask any questions. The success of our children depends upon our collaboration; it is essential that we nurture a relationship of respect and trust and model Christ’s teachings for our children. Please feel free to talk with our dedicated and talented staff or our compassionate and involved parent community. You will immediately feel the caring and inspiring spirit of St. John’s!

We appreciate your commitment to Catholic education, and we look forward to getting to know you and serve you. We do not just accept a child for enrollment at St. John’s; we accept a family. Thank you for honoring us with the privilege of being your partners in the education of your child! We look forward to many years of prayer, growth, achievement, success, and celebration.

In Peace,

Ms. Liz Guneratne
Principal

Application Process

We welcome all applicants!

The Catholic schools in the Diocese of Oakland, mindful of their mission to be witnesses to the love of Christ for all, admit students of any race, color, and national and/or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the schools. The Catholic schools in the Diocese of Oakland do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and/or ethnic origin, age, sex, or disability in the administration of educational policies, scholarships and loan programs, and athletic and other school administered programs. (D.H. 5110)

In accordance with this, St. John Catholic School will adhere to the policy that every person, as a child of God, regardless of race, condition, or age has equal dignity and an inalienable right to an education. Therefore, no qualified student will be denied admission to this school on the basis of sex, race, color, or national origin.

The application process gives us the opportunity to learn more about each other and see if we would be able to meet the needs of the applying student. We expect every child to achieve success and we take great care to make sure that we begin our partnership with clear expectations.

Upon application, the following are considered in the acceptance of pre-kindergarten through 8th grade:

Students who are not accepted to our kindergarten program have the option of attending another kindergarten program and re-applying for kindergarten or 1st grade the following year.

The priority for admission into St. John Catholic School for pre-kindergarten through 8th grade applicants is as follows:

  1. Siblings of children currently enrolled in the school
  2. Children from families who are active parishioners at St. John’s
  3. Children of alumni and legacies.
  4. Families who attend other Catholic parishes
  5. Non-Catholics.

Active parishioner is defined by regular attendance at Mass and financial support of our parish through contributions in your envelope. We are interested in a cooperative effort between parish, school, and family.
